These are the main Terms & Conditions of the quote price we have provided to you.  These are intended to summarise in simple terms the basis on which we have provided you with a quote for your car & our legal requirements.  They are intended to avoid confusion and to make sure that both buyer & seller are clear about their obligations.

Is based upon the information provided by you.  If upon receipt of your vehicle we find that it differs from the information you provided to us we may reduce the price offered or even reject the vehicle.

Depending upon the make, model, age and condition of your vehicle we may offer more than the scrap value for your vehicle.  This is because we think it has additional value for spares parts or for repair.  If this is the case, extra conditions will apply to the quote.

We do not make a charge to collect vehicles in our local area.  But we may reduce the price we offer for a vehicle if we have to collect it from outside our local area. If this is the case, we will tell you when we first contact you.

Please make sure all vehicle keys & documentation are to hand when we collect or you deliver the vehicle. If we offer to pay more than the basic scrap price we expect to receive the keys, V5 and service history. If these are not available we may reduce the price we offer to pay.

It is now a legal requirement (under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013) to take and keep proof of identity of sellers of scrap vehicles. We need 2 forms of ID – something with your photograph on it (e.g. a UK photo card driving licence or a passport) & recent utility bill (less than 3 months old & showing the same details as above).  Data protection law (including GDPR) does not prevent or restrict this.

By selling your vehicle to us you confirm that you are the legal owner of the vehicle and have a right to dispose of it.  Albert Looms accepts no liability under this condition.

We do not buy vehicles with, or settle, outstanding finance or logbook loans.

We do NOT pay cash for scrap cars (it is illegal under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013). Payment is by BACS or cheque. BACS payment will be made electronically into your bank account within 1 working day of us receiving your vehicle and confirming the condition is in line with your description.

We may pay cash for cars that we intend to resell as second hand cars, but BACS is our preferred payment method.

Quotes are based upon vehicles being complete, with keys and the V5 registration document. If parts have been removed or the vehicle does not start/ run (e.g. the engine is seized) then we reserve the right to reduce the price offered or even reject the vehicle, especially if we have offered more than the basic scrap price.

Unless previously agreed, vehicles must not be excessively damaged.  Minor damage (small dents, scrapes, corrosion etc.) due to normal ‘wear & tear’ is fine.  But the price quoted may be reduced for heavily accident damaged vehicles or they may even be rejected.  This includes severe mechanical damage such as a seized engine.

The vehicle must be ‘movable’ – it must have 4 wheels with inflated tyres to allow it to loaded onto our vehicle or towed away.  If you think there may be a problem, please tell us when we first contact you.

The vehicle must be freely ‘accessible’ to our drivers (not blocked in by other vehicles or parked in a very narrow lane, or a height-restricted car park).  If you think there may be a problem, please tell us when we first contact you.

Vehicles must not contain rubbish (e.g. household or builders waste). If they do we reserve the right to reduce our offered price or even reject the vehicle.

It is the seller’s responsibility to inform DVLA of a change of ownership.  This should be done using the yellow section (transfer to motor trader or vehicle dismantler) of the V5, with the remainder of the V5 being given to us.  In can also be done on-line HERE.

If we sell a vehicle we will inform DVLA of the new keeper details.
